A Wantagh man who police said tried to rob two Nassau banks within 15 minutes in September has been indicted in both heists, authorities said Monday.

Nassau Police Robbery Squad detectives said Jonathan Levin, 35, of Twin Lane East was arraigned on indictments for third-degree robbery and third-degree attempted robbery stemming from two crimes involving banks in Wantagh and North Massapequa on Sept. 30 at 12:35 p.m. and 12:50 p.m.

Police said Levin walked into TD Bank at 3222 Sunrise Hwy. in Wantagh and handed a demand note to a teller, who complied. But the suspect dropped the money before he got out of the bank.

Fifteen minutes later, police said, he tried to rob a Chase Bank at 1090 Hicksville Rd. in North Massapequa, but was unsuccessful there, too.

His attorney, Jeffrey Groder of Mineola, said Levin had been in custody on unrelated charges and was arraigned on the indictments handed up by the grand jury last week without being rearrested.

A spokesman for Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas said Levin was being held on $350,000 bond or $200,000 cash until his next court date of March 28.
