A Lindenhurst man was arrested on weapons charges on Friday after Suffolk County police discovered a trove of handguns, long guns and switchblades following a probation check at his home, the department said in a statement.

Probation officers observed brass knuckles and an expandable baton during a search of the Granada Avenue home of Albert Tusa, police said. First Squad detectives who were called to the home later recovered eight handguns, 17 long guns and 16 switchblades, as well as two high-capacity magazines.

Tusa, 60, was on probation for criminal contempt. The statement did not explain the circumstances surrounding the charge.

Tusa was charged with eight counts of criminal possession of a firearm, one count of criminal possession of an assault weapon and other gun-related crimes, police said. It was not clear late Friday if he had retained an attorney.

Tusa was to be held overnight at the Third Precinct in Bay Shore for arraignment on Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
