Cops: 2 charged in fatal N.J. shooting are 'persons of interest' in LI robbery
Suffolk police said Thursday night that two people charged in the Dec. 20 robbery and fatal shooting of an Edison, New Jersey, gas station attendant are also “persons of interest” in a Dec. 19 West Babylon 7-Eleven robbery.
Middlesex County prosecutor Andrew Carey’s office said in a news release Thursday that Marcus A. Wright and Olya Quinnam, both 22, of Beaufort, South Carolina, had been arrested in South Carolina and were being held for extradition to New Jersey.
Wright was arrested in South Carolina Thursday and was charged with murder, robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, according to the release. Quinnam was charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery and hindering apprehension.
Quinnam was arrested in South Carolina Tuesday.
Surveillance footage from the West Babylon robbery showed a gunman entering the 7-Eleven just before 9 p.m. wearing dark gloves, a dark hooded sweatshirt, a mask and what appeared to be acid-washed jeans. Footage from the robbery of a New Jersey Speedway gas station hours later showed a gunman in what looked like identical clothing.
The Middlesex prosecutor said that during that robbery, Wright shot clerk John Bertram, 38, of Woodbridge Township, New Jersey, after Bertram handed him a cash register drawer containing currency.
Suffolk police said their investigation was ongoing and that they were coordinating with law enforcement in New Jersey, South Carolina and the Suffolk County district attorney’s office.
