West Babylon driver indicted in hit-run of man, DA says

A West Babylon driver has been indicted in the fatal hit and run of a man in his wheelchair in October, the Suffolk district attorney’s office said Monday.

Christopher Bacayon is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in the death of Michael Dora, of West Babylon, who had been on Great East Neck Road nearby just after 9 p.m. Oct. 16, when he was struck, authorities said.

Bacayon is the twin brother of a convicted hit-and-run driver, the district attorney’s office said Monday night in a news release, which did not name the brother.

In a telephone call late Monday, Bacayon declined to comment.

At the time of the fatal crash, police were looking for a dark-colored vehicle, possibly a Nissan with front-end damage. Details on how investigators tied Bacayon to the crash were not immediately available Monday night.

Dora, 40, had been killed about a half-mile from the apartment complex where he and his mother, Esther Dora, had moved a month before.

His mother told News 12 Long Island she was terminally ill and that her son, who had spina bifida, a spinal cord disease, “kept her alive every day.”

“Michael was the best son . . . and everybody loved him,” she said.
