Suffolk County police on Saturday arrested and charged a Wyandanch man with driving while intoxicated after an early-morning crash in West Babylon left a passenger in his car critically injured.

The driver, Jose Gonzalez, 26, of Brooklyn Avenue, had bail set at $25,000 bond or $12,500 cash Saturday in First District Court in Central Islip, according to online court records. He is being represented by the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk County and is due back in court Wednesday.

Police said Gonzalez was driving south on Straight Path when he crossed into the northbound lanes, colliding into oncoming traffic around 2 a.m. Saturday.

The passenger in Gonzalez’s vehicle, a 36-year-old Wyandanch woman, was in critical condition at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said in a news release.

Both Gonzalez, who drove a 2012 Honda, and the other driver, who drove a 2009 Mercedes-Benz, were treated for minor injuries at Good Samaritan.
