Williston Park woman charged in check scheme
A Williston Park woman was arrested Tuesday and charged with third-degree grand larceny after police said she deposited a fraudulent check into a Chase bank account, withdrew funds against it — then tried to withdraw additional funds against it later at another bank branch.
Nassau County Police said the fraudulent check was for $9,567.86. It was unclear how much money was withdrawn against it.
Arrested was Lacy Fields of Amersfort Place, police said.
In addition to the larceny charge, she also was charged with second-degree possession of a forged instrument.
She is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said the incident began when Fields deposited the check in the Chase branch in Mineola. She made a withdrawal against the check there, then attempted another withdrawal at a branch on Hillside Avenue in Williston Park.
Police said bank employees became suspicious and notified them. Fields was arrested at the bank at about 6:30 p.m.
