Nassau County police are investigating after a woman reported a man had broken into her Massapequa home Thursday afternoon.

The 58-year-old woman was in the basement of her Hicksville Road house about 1:20 p.m. when she told police she heard noises and footsteps on the floor above.

She walked upstairs to the main floor as a man walked by the basement door. Police believe he entered the home by ripping the screen of an open window. When the woman screamed, he ran out of the house through a rear sliding glass door.

The woman tried to follow the man, but he pushed her to the ground when she left the house and he ran away, police said.

The suspect is in his 20s, standing about 6 feet with a muscular build and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

The woman was not injured and nothing was reported taken.

Detectives are asking those with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
