Woman charged with DWI with 2 kids in car, cops say

A Uniondale woman was arrested early Sunday and charged with drinking and driving with her children in the car – a violation of Leandra’s Law, Nassau County police said in a release.

Alinzon M. Callejas, 37, was charged with two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and DWI and motor vehicle violations, police said.

An officer stopped Callejas at 2:15 a.m. Sunday at North Long Beach Road and Purdy Court in Rockville Centre after she was observed driving a white Chrysler Town and Country at high speed and failing to stay in a traffic lane.

At that point, the officer discovered Callejas’ two children – ages 7 and 10 – in the vehicle.

A judge gave Callejas a conditional release at her arraignment Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead. Callejas is scheduled to return to court Wednesday, according to court records.

Under Leandra’s law, it’s a felony to be found guilty of driving intoxicated or impaired by drugs with a child 15 years or younger in the vehicle. The law is named after 11-year-old Leandra Rosado, who was killed in an October 2009 DWI crash in Manhattan.
