Woman shot in Brentwood, Suffolk police say

A woman was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot Thursday night on a street in Brentwood, Suffolk County police said.
The shooting occurred on Lincoln Avenue at about 10 p.m. A police spokeswoman said a man approached the 26-year-old Brentwood woman, shot her in the arm and fled.
The condition of the woman, who was taken from the scene via Brentwood Ambulance, was unknown.
Police said there have been no arrests and that Third Squad detectives are investigating. It was not clear if the shooting was gang-related.
The shooting comes amid heightened concerns about violence in the community, where within the past six weeks police have launched investigations into six gang-related homicides by assault, five of them involving teenagers as victims.
Suffolk police on Monday found the skeletal remains of Jose Peña-Hernandez, 18, of Brentwood — a known MS-13 gang member — who police believe was beaten to death by gang members.
Police Commissioner Timothy Sini said Thursday that investigators have rounded up more than 30 MS-13 gang members, in what Sini has described as a mission to “decimate” the violent gang that has terrorized Brentwood.
