A Brooklyn man arguing with the mother of his child stabbed her on a Lake Ronkonkoma street late Thursday after she had gotten out of the vehicle in which they were traveling, Suffolk County police said.

Stephen John, 21, is charged with second-degree assault, aggravated criminal contempt and grand larceny, a police spokeswoman said Friday.

The two were in the vehicle when the argument escalated, police said.

The woman got out of the vehicle, and John stabbed her on the street at about 10 p.m.

Police did not immediately know on which street she was stabbed, but the woman was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers had a description of the vehicle John was driving and arrested him on Bo Court in Lake Ronkonkoma, the spokeswoman said.

His arraignment information was not immediately available.
