A woman confronted a burglar in her Woodmere home on Friday, shortly after a teenager spotted a man trying to break into her home in the same community, Nassau police said.

The 59-year-old woman was in her Milton Place home at 2:19 p.m. when she saw a stranger standing in the second-floor hallway, police said.

She yelled at the intruder, who ran down the stairs and out of the house, apparently without taking anything, according to police. Detectives later determined that the burglar had entered through a kitchen window.

Minutes before that break-in, police said a 17-year-old returned to her North Central Avenue home and saw a man cutting through the screen on a rear window. The would-be burglar fled.

The homes are less than a half-mile apart, a police spokesman said. It wasn’t immediately known if the crimes are connected.

Anyone with information about the crimes should call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
