A Brooklyn man was arrested in Manhattan on Tuesday and charged with murder "for fatally shooting a man" in August 2020 in Wyandanch, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Basheer Vinson, 28, of Farragut Road, in Brooklyn's Flatbush neighborhood, was arrested by Suffolk detectives at Manhattan Criminal Court in the Aug. 2, 2020, killing of Mark Birthwright Jr., 26, of Bay Shore, according to a news release.

The department’s press office said in response to questions that he had been in court for a previous grand larceny case. The office did not say what led to Vinson's arrest after more than two years, or what evidence links him to the crime, in which another man was also wounded.

Vinson is to be arraigned Friday at First District Court on a charge of second-degree murder.

Kristin McAlpin, his attorney listed on the grand larceny case, which also involved an allegation of illegally possessing a stolen credit card, did not return a voicemail seeking comment late Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting two years ago was on Patton Avenue at 2:10 a.m. as the victims left a party. The men were shot on the street. The survivor sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
