Wyandanch man charged in Amityville purse-snatching, cops say
A Wyandanch man has been arrested in connection with an August purse-snatching in Amityville, Suffolk County police said.
An 83-year-old Amityville woman was walking to the Long Island Rail Road station in the village about 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 9 when the incident occurred, police said.
The woman was approached by Dashawn Hamilton, 28, of East Booker Avenue, who grabbed her purse containing cash, credit and debit cards, a cellphone and other personal items, and then fled, police said.
Police said First Precinct Officers Edward Angelo and John Maloney found Hamilton near his home and arrested him at 10:52 p.m. Saturday in connection with the robbery.
Hamilton was charged with two counts of grand larceny and was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday in First District Court in Central Islip.
