Cuomo: 1,285 tickets issued during pedestrian safety initiative

Police agencies on Long Island and in two dozen upstate counties issued 1,285 tickets and 1,416 warnings during a two-week pedestrian safety initiative earlier this summer, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said.
“This multipronged effort is setting new standards that will help make our roadways safer for motorists and pedestrians alike,” Cuomo said in a news release Thursday.
The enforcement effort ran from June 20 through July 3, the news release said.
The news release did not specify what infractions generated the tickets and warnings.
The governor’s office provided data Friday showing that enforcement on Long Island was conducted by police in Nassau and Suffolk counties, as well as Village of Hempstead Police.
The data showed police “interactions” with 418 pedestrians and 523 motorists on Long Island during the enforcement initiative.
