A certified public accountant from Seaford pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges he stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from two elderly clients, as well as $427,000 from a rural cemetery association in Huntington.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said in a statement Tuesday that Scott Meyer, 47, of Paddock Road, was arrested six months ago and charged with grand larceny.

Meyer, a partner in the Huntington accounting firm of Johnson & Meyer, had been free on $25,000 bail. But at arraignment before Suffolk County Judge Stephen Braslow in Riverhead, his bail was set at $200,000 bond or $100,000 cash. Bail had not been posted by Tuesday evening, the state's court website showed.

Spota said Meyer is "alleged to have stolen" about $150,000 from an 80-year-old Greenport client who suffers from dementia and "in excess of $240,000" from a disabled elderly client now living in California.

Meyer also is accused of stealing about $427,000 from the cemetery association -- described as a not-for-profit group run by volunteers.
