February job levels on Long Island
Long Island gained 9,400 jobs in February 2019 compared with February 2018, a 0.7 percent increase, according to new data from the state Labor Department. Education and health services had the biggest increase, up 4.3 percent with 11,600 new positions, while the construction sector was up 5.6 percent with 4,500 new jobs. The professional and business services sector lost 8,000 jobs over the year for a 4.9 percent drop, and the information sector dropped 6.7 percent as it lost 1,200 positions.
