Disabled Amtrak train delays, cancels LIRR
A disabled Amtrak train in an East River tunnel resulted in some Long Island Rail Road rush hour train delays and cancellations Friday evening, an LIRR spokesman said.
The Amtrak train became disabled about 6 p.m., and caused delays of about 10- to 15- minutes for Long Island commuters, according to Salvatore Arena, the LIRR spokesman.
No information was available as to when the disabled Amtrak train would be cleared, Arena said, but as fewer LIRR trains are regularly scheduled past the rush hours, blockage of one of the East River tunnels should have no impact on the later evening LIRR train schedules.
