A disabled LIRR train that went out of operation just before reaching the platform in Penn Station is causing delays of all other trains moving in both directions at the station, officials said Monday evening.
Railroad spokesman Stanley Davis said the westbound 4:06 p.m. Babylon train that was due at Penn Station at 5:05 p.m. became disabled at about 5 p.m.
"It's causing delays of 20 to 30 minutes," Davis said, adding that the train was almost at the platform when it stopped.
The LIRR posted this alert on its website: "LIRR service is experiencing delays of 10 to 15 minutes in both directions into and out of Penn Station due to a disabled train near the East River tunnels. This affects all branches."
It was unclear when the train routes would be cleared.
