DOT: Highway lane closures coming around LI
Lane closures are scheduled on three major thoroughfares in Nassau and Suffolk counties, the state Department of Transportation said Tuesday.
All westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway between Motor Parkway (Exit 55) and Sagtikos Parkway (Exit 53) will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for about a week, every night except Saturday, as the DOT performs maintenance on the Washington Avenue Bridge.
Starting Wednesday, all northbound lanes on the Wantagh State Parkway between Ocean Parkway and Merrick Road will be closed between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for about three days. The Wantagh Parkway multiuse path also will be closed during that time.
When the northbound closure is complete, all southbound lanes on the Wantagh Parkway will be closed on the same stretch between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for about three days, but the multiuse path will remain open.
During the Wantagh lane closures, drivers will be detoured to the Meadowbrook Parkway.
On Sunrise Highway on an as-needed basis, the left travel lane will be closed in the Town of Brookhaven for short distances, Monday through Friday until fall, as the DOT installs a center median cable barrier to prevent crossover accidents.
The Sunrise Highway lane closures are as follows:
Eastbound and/or westbound from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Patchogue/Exit 53 and Shirley/Exit 58.
Eastbound from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Shirley/Exit 58 and Moriches/Exit 59.
Westbound from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Shirley/Exit 58 and Moriches/Exit 59.
