Repaving and repair work during off-peak hours is affecting drivers Thursday on Route 106 in East Norwich, as well as those looking to use the Southern State Parkway Exit 19 ramps in the area of Hempstead, South Hempstead and Lakeview.

The Route 106 work — from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting — is closing and/or shifting travel lanes starting a quarter mile north of the Routes 106/107 split to Route 25A, the state Department of Transportation said in a release. One travel lane will remain open in each direction, meaning delays for those who don’t opt for alternate routes, the DOT said. The work is expected to continue Friday and next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Southern State work being done Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is closing ramps from the westbound parkway to southbound Peninsula Boulevard and southbound Peninsula Boulevard to the westbound parkway, the DOT said. Drivers are asked to use alternate routes or be prepared for delays.
