Early rain, but mostly sunny week ahead

A spell of rain early in the week will give way to mild, seasonable temperatures across Long Island, according to the National Weather Service. And Tropical Storm Isaac should have no impact on the week's weather in our area.

Sunday's partly sunny skies will remain dry, with high temperatures near 80 degrees and lows in the low to mid-60s, meteorologist David Stark said.

Clouds will begin to increase on Sunday night, and on Monday, there will be a chance of scattered showers or thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon, he said.

Monday's high will be around 80 degrees, and lows will be in the upper 60s.

Temperatures will rise slightly on Tuesday, with highs in the mid-80s. There will be a chance of showers or thunderstorms in the late morning and early afternoon hours, Stark said.

Lows on Tuesday will be in the 60s.

Wednesday through the end of the week will likely be dry days, with high temperatures around 80 degrees, mostly sunny skies, and lows in the low to mid-60s.

Stark said forecasts show Tropical Storm Isaac will remain "well south" of the Long Island area.

"As of right now, there is no indication of any sort of effect from this" on Long Island, he said.
