East End group home aide faces sex abuse charges
A former aide at an East End group home for developmentally disabled adults will be arraigned on a grand jury indictment Wednesday in Suffolk County Court in Riverhead after he allegedly victimized five women at two facilities, authorities said.
Pervez Mahmud, 64, of Manorville was arrested in November and charged with sexual abuse and endangerment in connection with the incidents at homes in Bay Shore and Southold, the Suffolk County district attorney's office said. Mahmud worked for AHRC of Suffolk, officials said.
AHRC suspended Mahmud Nov. 9 when allegations surfaced that he had "inappropriately touched a woman in the Bay Shore facility," the office of District Attorney Thomas Spota said.
"We have reason to believe this defendant victimized four women in the Southold facility and one female housed in a Bay Shore group home last year," Spota said in a prepared statement.
Mahmud has been free on bail, the district attorney said.
Judge Barbara Kahn will unseal the indictment.
