FAA reports flight delays, cancellations
Snow, ice, sleet and freezing rain are causing average delays of almost an hour and 20 minutes to arrivals Tuesday at LaGuardia Airport, with dozens of flights either delayed or canceled at the three major metro-area airports, the Federal Aviation Administration reported.
Several flights into and out of Kennedy had been delayed more than two hours.
There were minor delays reported for some flights out of Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma.
Earlier, the FAA reported that two morning flights to Kennedy -- one from Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, another from Medellin, Colombia -- had been redirected to other airports.
Canceled flights at area airports included a wide range of destinations and originations: Milwaukee; Savannah, Ga.; Pittsburgh; Omaha, Neb.; Chicago; Jacksonville, Fla.; Tulsa, Okla.; Nashville, Tenn.; New Orleans; Boston; Greensboro / High Point, N.C.; Kansas City, Mo.; Charleston; Baltimore; Dayton, Ohio; Portland, Ore.; Columbus, Ohio; Cincinnati; Bentonville, Ark.; Toronto; Montreal; Detroit; St. Louis; Providence, R.I.; Richmond, Va.; Hartford, Conn.; Cleveland; Buffalo; and Washington, D.C.
As a result, travelers are being advised to check with their airlines before heading to the airport Tuesday.
