Fall Foliage Report: Optimal leaf-peeping weekend on LI

Long Island trees this weekend will be showing off foliage colors at their peak, with both Saturday and Sunday expected to come through with sunny or mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid-50s.
What could be better for some leaf peeping?
Spotters in both Suffolk and Nassau counties say to look for peak colors or a hairline away from it, depending on the area, with yellow, orange, red and purple leaves of average brilliance, according to the latest weekly Fall Foliage Report, issued Wednesday by New York State.
Other peak viewing areas in the state include the Finger Lakes and Hudson Valley regions, according to a report from the Empire State Development’s I Love New York program.
As for viewing conditions, look for seasonal and dry conditions, said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist.
The weekend brings a nice shot of fall weather, said Jay Engle, National Weather Service meteorologist, based in Upton.
