A single-vehicle crash on the eastbound Northern State Parkway in Nassau County left one person dead early Monday, state police said.

The crash occurred west of Exit 31, Glen Cove Road, in Carle Place, at 1:29 a.m. Arriving troopers found a gray vehicle "in the tree line" off to the side of the road with "the operator inside deceased." The driver was the lone occupant in the vehicle, police said.

The initial investigation indicates speed was a factor in the crash, police said.

The identity of the driver has not been released pending notification of next of kin, police said.

Further information was not immediately available Monday.
