Feds: Pilot error likely caused 'angel flight' crash that killed LI couple
Federal investigators say pilot error is probably to blame for a plane crash into a Massachusetts supermarket parking lot that claimed the lives of all three people on board.
The National Transportation Safety Board said in a report this week that pilot Joseph Baker of Brookfield, Conn. had not kept his “instrument only” flying credentials up to date and failed “to maintain control of the airplane” while attempting an approach in cloudy conditions.
The Enterprise of Brockton reports that the investigation found no problems with the engine, airframe or electronics.
The small plane was transporting cancer patient Robert Gregory, of Riverhead, N.Y., and his wife, Donna Gregory, to Boston for treatment when it crashed in a Hannaford supermarket parking lot in Easton in August 2008.
