FEMA extends deadline for Sandy victim reimbursements

New York's Sandy victims now have until April 13 to apply for housing, reimbursements for losses and other help under the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The previous deadline was Friday, and Nassau and Suffolk are among the 13 counties eligible for help in New York State.
Even though Sandy hit New York Oct. 29, FEMA spokesman John Miller said several Long Islanders applied for the first time in the past few days.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said in a statement the extended deadline will give residents more time to get help: "As the six-month anniversary of Superstorm Sandy approaches, many New Yorkers impacted . . . are still in need and must have access to disaster assistance and resources to help them get back on their feet."
Apply at 800-621-3362 (TTY 800-462-7585) 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily or disasterassistance.gov.
Loans are also available from the Small Business Administration at sba.gov and 800-659-2922 (TTY 800-877-8339).
