Things are about to get a lot hotter on Long Island. British author E.L. James, whose erotic novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey," and its two sequels have become pop-culture phenomena and national bestsellers, is coming to the Island to promote the trilogy.

James will speak at a luncheon at Carlyle on the Green in Bethpage State Park on May 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $85 per person and include lunch and wine. The books will be available for purchase separately.

The event is hosted by Divalysscious Moms, which launches products and plans events for mothers. Tickets can be purchased on the group's website,, or by emailing Lynn Brodsky, a spokeswoman for Divalysscious Moms, says the event will be capped at 350 people and expects tickets to "go fast."

At 7 p.m. James will read and sign books at Barnes & Noble in Country Glen Center in Carle Place. Wristbands for the signing will be available starting at 9 a.m.

"Fifty Shades" -- about a young woman who enters into a sadomasochistic relationship with a wealthy businessman -- took off first as an e-book, before Vintage acquired rights to sell the paperback in the United States. A spokesman for Vintage says that in their first month on sale the three novels have sold more than 2 million copies in all formats.

James' Long Island appearance is one stop on a national tour that will take her around the tri-state area and to six other cities.
