75 firefighters put down fire at Garden City restaurant, utilities to 10 nearby businesses shut down

Dozens of firefighters battled a fire Saturday afternoon that began in the basement of a Garden City restaurant, officials said.
The Garden City Fire Department responded to the eatery on Franklin Avenue, near Stewart Avenue, after receiving an automatic fire alarm at 1 p.m. and a phone call from the store, where an outlet was smoking in the basement, according to a Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office release.
A total of 12 fire departments and around 75 firefighters responded to the scene, the office said. The fire was brought under control within 55 minutes.
No injuries were reported.
Ten stores will be closed after authorities shut off electric and gas in a section of the commercial strip, the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office release said, and the restaurant is expected to remain closed until the damage caused by the fire is fixed.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office and the Nassau County Arson and Bomb Squad are investigating the fire.
