The cause of a fire at a commercial warehouse in Yaphank Sunday morning is under investigation.

There were no injuries.

The blaze started shortly before 7:30 a.m. at a one-story brick building located at 775 Long Island Ave., Yaphank Fire Chief Chris Austin said.

Austin said he did not know the name of the business but he said it appeared to be a wood working company with an office in the front and warehouse space in the rear.

“It started in the office area and extended to the roof,” Austin said. He said there was no one inside the building at the time of the blaze and that another tenant called 911 to report the smell of smoke.

“When we got there, there were flames coming out of the windows in the office,” Austin said. He said the fire was contained mostly to the office area. It was brought under control about 8:30 a.m.

Austin said there was smoke and water damage to a warehouse filled with boxes of toys on the right side of the building where the fire originated and also to a nearby casket-making business.

Firefighters on the scene included Yaphank, Medford Brookhaven, Farmingville, Coram, Middle Island, Gordon Heights and Ridge.
