Southampton Town police arrested a Flanders man Thursday evening after they said he jumped out of a moving vehicle he was driving during a traffic stop.

Saul Hernandez, 29, had been driving on Flanders Road in Flanders about 5:45 p.m. when police said they saw him driving erratically and tried to pull him over.

Hernandez slowed his vehicle, a 2003 Chevrolet minivan, but jumped out and started running while the minivan was still rolling, police said.

A passenger in the minivan brought the vehicle to a halt, according to police.

Police began a search for Hernandez, who was found in Flanders and arrested about 8:15 p.m.

He was charged with resisting arrest, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operator, reckless driving and several vehicle and traffic code violations.

Hernandez was ordered held on $4,000 bail during his arraignment Friday in Southampton Town Justice Court.
