Fog caused delays at area airports Monday, with visibility in the evening only about a quarter of a mile at Kennedy, which experienced delays on arrivals averaging two hours and 12 minutes, officials said.
A dense fog advisory for Long Island Monday morning expired at 10 a.m., but National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Layer said fog lingered "most of the day in some areas," particularly along the coast.
Some arriving flights at LaGuardia Airport were delayed an average of 43 minutes, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
At Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma, there were delays of 15 minutes or less on arrivals and departures, the FAA said.
Patchy fog -- dense in some spots -- is expected through Monday night in certain areas of Long Island, Layer said.
There's a chance of showers throughout Tuesday, with temperatures well above average, in the upper 50s to low 60s, he said.
