More snow is on the way Monday night and Tuesday for Long Island and the rest of the New York City area, according to the National Weather Service.
Snowmaggedon II? Probably not.
"It's light stuff," said Joe Pollina, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service station in Upton.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for tonight for parts of Long Island with snow and rain expected to come through the area around midnight, according to the National Weather Service. A snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches is possible. A heavy dose of rain could be in the mix too, Polina said.
Precipitation is expected to begin between 7 and 10 p.m., Polina said, and it should continue into the morning rush hour. It could slow commuters, but it's not expected to turn roads icy because temperatures should stay above freezing, he said.
Long Island could get less snow than the rest of the region. The forecast for New York City is 2 to 4 inches and New Jersey and parts of upstate New York are in for 6 inches or more, Pollina said.
But if the storm heads north, it would mean more rain than snow, while a turn south would dump more snow on coastal areas, the weather service advisory said. Either way, Pollina said, "we're expecting snow or rain and probably both."
