Four people died on the train, and at least 17 more were taken to area hospitals. Three were in very critical condition last night. Following is a breakdown of the dead and injured:

Wounded in the Shooting:

Helen Alexandersen, approximately 30 years old, of Franklin Square. In critical condition and undergoing surgery last night at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset with bullet wounds in chest, abdomen and left thigh.

John Apsel, age and hometown unavailable. In serious condition at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola with bullet wound to the spleen, kidney and diaphragm.

Elizabeth Azelie, 30, hometown unavailable. In stable condition at Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow with superficial wounds.

Frank Barker, age and hometown unavailable. At Winthrop-University Hosptial.

Alfred Casazza, 60, of Westbury. In stable condition at North Shore University Hospital with chest wound.

Lisa Combatti, seven months pregnant, 33, hometown unavailable. At Winthrop-University Hospital with bullet wound in the buttocks.

Amy Federici, 27, hometown unavailable. On life support at Winthrop-University Hospital with brain injuries from bullet wound to the neck.

John Forni, 35, age and hometown unavailable. In critical but stable condition at Nassau County Medical Center with chest wound and wounds in each arm.

Robert Giuliano, 38, of Franklin Square. In stable condition at North Shore University Hospital with chest wound and wound in left arm.

Jill Mitchel, age and hometown unavailable. In stable condition at Winthrop-Univeristy Hospital with bullet wound to forehead.

Kevin McCarthy, 23, of Mineola, son of Dennis McCarthy, who was killed. Kevin is in extremely critical condition and undergoing surgery last night at North Shore University Hospital with a severe head wound and a hand injury.

Thomas McDermott, 50, of Garden City. In good condition at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre with bullet wound in left shoulder.

Jeanne Norton, 24, of Garden City. Treated and released from Mercy Medical Center with bump on the head from the panic after the shooting.

Maryann Phillips, 39, hometown unavailable. In stable condition at North Shore University Hospital with bullet wounds in chest and upper arm.

Minoru Saito, 61, of Garden City. Treated and released from Mercy Medical Center with a graze wound to the leg.

Deborah Weber, 38, of Garden City. In stable condition at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park with bullet wound to the thigh.

Unidentified woman, described as Asian. In critical condition at Nassau County Medical Center with a bullet wound to the temple.
