Authorities say a northern New York man has died after his head got caught underneath a mower he was towing with his tractor.

Clinton County Coroner David Donah tells the Press-Republican of Plattsburgh that the accident occurred Monday afternoon in the town of Saranac, in the northeastern Adirondacks.

Donah says Gerald Bassett was found with his head caught under the mower deck of his Ford tractor. He says it appeared that the seven-foot wide mower deck fell onto Bassett's neck as he was working on the device at his property, pinning him under the vehicle.

Bassett was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police are investigating the accident.
