All the residents of a four-story Great Neck apartment building were evacuated safely Thursday night after a fire broke out, officials said.

The blaze at 6 Wooleys Lane was reported at 6:50 p.m., fire officials said. No residents were injured, but one firefighter suffered minor injuries from a fall, according to Fire Chief Willie Peterson of the Great Neck Alerts fire department.

Peterson said the fire was confined to one of the 25 apartments in the building, but water and smoke damage left the building uninhabitable for anyone Thursday night. The fire does not appear to be suspicious in origin, he said, but the fire marshal will make that determination.

About 200 firefighters responded, with 14 other companies assisting the Great Neck department. The fire was brought under control at about 8:15 p.m.

Melissa Ingberg, a spokeswoman for the American Red Cross in Nassau, said the Red Cross was at the scene to determine whether any residents would need emergency temporary housing.

"We stand ready to provide shelter and comfort," Ingberg said. "Additionally, our volunteers are helping to take care of first responders with water, snacks and warm beverages."
