Monster Storms of Long Island #3: Blizzard of 1888

Meteorologists called it a “once in 500-year storm.” The legendary Blizzard of ’88 started the night of March 11 and lasted 72 hours. The forecast was for 50 degrees and light rain. There was more than 30" snow on LI with drifts to 40 feet. Temps from -1 to 11 degrees.  Hundreds of people died. Credit: Kendall Rodriguez
