A man was killed and his son seriously injured after a fire broke out at their Huntington Station home on Sunday night, Suffolk police said.

Around 11:15 p.m. officers responded to the Depot Road home after a 911 caller reported the fire.

Five fire departments responded to extinguish the blaze, police said.

A resident of the home, Barry Garfman, 82, was pronounced dead at the scene. His son, Dustin Garfman, 42, also a resident, was taken to Huntington Hospital before being transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition, police said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but does not appear to be criminal in nature, police said.
