A Newsday investigation found that police use of force has increased and that racial disparities in policing have persisted in the five years since the state ordered local police departments to reform their policies specifically to address those two issues.
The database below shows how use of force has changed in the last five years and the racial disparities in police activity at the 358 police departments that reported data to the state Division of Criminal Justice Services.
