Jeff Greenfield, chairman of the Nassau County Planning Commission, is the latest appointee to the LIPA board of trustees.

"I look forward to the challenges," Greenfield, 60, a lifelong Rockville Centre resident, said Friday night. "I'm in it for public service."

His first public meeting with the Long Island Power Authority will be Jan. 24, he said.

Greenfield, owner of a Lynbrook-based insurance company, was appointed to the county planning board 12 years ago. He is a member of the Molloy College board of trustees and has been involved with the Rockville Centre Fire Department for many years.

LIPA Trustee Neal Lewis applauded the appointment, saying Greenfield "really knows Nassau communities" and is "not a yes man."

Greenfield was appointed by Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre). Five vacancies remain on LIPA's 15-seat board.
