Cops: Medford man charged with DWI crossed traffic, struck driver

A Medford man was arrested on a drunken driving charge early Saturday after he swerved into oncoming traffic and seriously injured another motorist, Suffolk police said.
Juan Fanacio-Avila, 32, was driving a 2000 Audi northbound on Route 112 at Mount Vernon Avenue in Medford at 6:07 a.m. when his vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and struck a 1999 Subaru driven by Froylan Perez, 35, of Coram.
Perez was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue with injuries that were serious but not considered life-threatening.
Fifth Squad detectives charged Fanacio-Avila, 32, with driving while intoxicated. He was to be held Saturday at the Fifth Precinct and was scheduled for arraignment Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
