Fourth of July on Long Island: What will be closed?

Independence Day celebrations will soon be in full swing.
Here’s a list of what businesses and government offices will be closed or operate on reduced hours for the July Fourth weekend.
- Schools, government offices, post offices (including UPS stores), courts and banks will be closed for Independence Day.
- New York City subways and buses, the Long Island Rail Road and Staten Island Railway will run on a Saturday schedule on Friday. For the subway and Staten Island Railway, there will be increased service in the late afternoon and early evening for those attending the Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks show.
- Metro-North Railroad will run on a Sunday schedule on Independence Day. It will operate on a Friday schedule on Thursday.
- Metropolitan Transportation Authority bridges and tunnels will have lane closures from 1 p.m. on Wednesday through 6 a.m. on Saturday for scheduled maintenance.
- Costco will be closed on Friday.
- Trader Joe's will be closing early at 5 p.m. on July 4.
- Some Aldi locations are closing early on July 4. Check with your local store.
