The stock market, schools and several federal buildings are closed Friday in commemoration of Juneteenth.

Declared a federal holiday in 2021 by President Joe Biden, the day celebrates when enslaved people in Texas were told they were free on June 19, 1865.

U.S. post offices, stock markets as well as schools, courts and many government offices are closed.

Major national banks such as Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Citibank are closed but online banking systems remain operational.

The Long Island Rail Road is running on a normal weekday schedule.

Stores like Costco, CVS, Walgreens, Lowe’s, Home Depot are open.

Restaurant chains like Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Chipotle, Wendy’s, Chick-fil-A, and McDonald’s are open, but hours may vary depending on location.

Most grocery stores like Target, Walmart, Stop & Shop, and Whole Foods, Aldi, are operating on normal hours.

For delivery services, Fed Ex and UPS stores, as well as pickup and delivery services are available.

Before patronizing a business, be sure to confirm their hours of operation online or by phone.
