Labor Day weather a washout
Stormy, muggy conditions will make this Labor Day a soggy one, according to the National Weather Service.
Long Island will see chances of showers and thunderstorms on Monday, with the highest chances for precipitation in the afternoon, said David Stark, meteorologist with the service's Upton bureau.
"Anywhere on Long Island you could see a shower or thunderstorm develop at any time," he said.
High temperatures will be in the low 80s, with lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Clouds will likely linger all day, with some rare breaks for sun, Stark said.
The wet, muggy conditions will continue into Tuesday, with mist and fog expected to drape over the morning's commute.
High temperatures on Tuesday will continue to be in the low 80s, but the chance for showers will diminish by the afternoon and evening, Stark said.
While the end of the holiday weekend is a wash, the middle of the workweek will be pleasant.
"By Tuesday night into Wednesday, we dry out completely," Stark said. Wednesday will see an end to the humidity and highs in the 70s.
