BRENTWOOD / Fatal fight outside pool hall

A 29-year-old man died and another man was left critically injured after a fight outside a Brentwood pool hall Sunday morning, Suffolk police said.

Police received a 911 call reporting a fight outside the Fiesta Pool Hall on Suffolk Avenue about 1:49 a.m. Officers found a 29-year-old man, originally from Guatemala, dead from head trauma caused by blunt force, said Det. Lt. Gerard Pelkofsky of the Homicide Squad.

Another man, Ramiro Garcia, 32, of Central Islip, also suffered blunt force trauma to his head.

Garcia was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore in critical condition, and later transferred to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, officials said.

MELVILLE / Teen hurt in drag-race crash

A teenager sustained serious injuries after the car he was driving hit a tree during an apparent street race in Melville Sunday morning, Melville Fire Chief Robert Warren said.

The teen was driving on Melville Park Road at Route 110 about 1 a.m. when his compact car left the roadway and hit a tree head-on, Warren said, adding that he believed the boy was street racing at the time.

Suffolk police Sgt. Joseph Restivo of the Second Precinct said police received a report of street racing at the location. Officers found a large group gathered around the teen's wrecked car.

The teen, who was not identified, became trapped.

Warren said it took his team 10 to 15 minutes to free the boy, whose legs were wedged under the dashboard.

The teen, described only as in his "late teens," suffered extensive injuries to his legs and facial trauma, Warren said.

The teen was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.

LAKE RONKONKOMA / Man found near adult home

An 86-year-old man who went missing from an adult home Friday has been found, Suffolk police said.

Victor Mangine was found Sunday morning not far from the Lake Shore Adult Home in Lake Ronkonkoma, police said. He was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center for observation.

Mangine, who is deaf and has dementia, had last been seen Friday about 11:30 a.m. at the adult home.

He had moved into the home about a week ago.

NORTH AMITYVILLE / Man shot at house party

A man is in critical condition after being shot in the head at a house party in North Amityville Sunday morning, Suffolk police said.

Police responded to a 911 call made about 2:45 a.m. reporting a man possibly shot on Benjoe Drive. Officers found Arthur Armstrong, 32, of Bellport, in the backyard, police reported.

Armstrong was taken by North Amityville Rescue to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip in critical condition.

HEMPSTEAD / Cops: Man fired into group

A Hempstead man has been arrested after firing shots into a group of people and striking a 19-year-old man, Nassau police said.

Juan Miranda, 27, fired into the group of people walking near Fulton Avenue in Hempstead Village about 3:50 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Police said Miranda then began to run, chased by several in the group. Police reported that Miranda and his pursuers began to struggle violently until Hempstead Village police arrived and arrested Miranda.

The 19-year-old victim, whom police did not identify, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.

Miranda was charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment and menacing.
