There’s something so magical about the holiday season in New York City. For many, this time of year marks a pilgrimage into Manhattan to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, enjoy the entertainment of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, visit department store window displays and spend time ice skating or shopping at the holiday markets. If you want to take the magic one step further, elevate your experience by booking a stay at a five-star hotel this Christmas.

Live out your “Home Alone 2” dreams, Kevin McCallister-style, with The Plaza’s Home Alone: Fun in New York experience (theplazany.com/special-offers/ home-alone-fun-in-new-york). A recent package started at $2,139 per night and includes a limousine ride around New York City to visit filming locations such as the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center and Carnegie Hall, a large cheese pizza and a towering ice cream sundae. Return to your suite, which mimics Kevin’s, complete with a mini fridge and a large, luxurious bed. Several of the hotel’s suites also offer special holiday perks, including a 7-foot-tall Christmas tree and festive flower arrangements.

Whether it’s your first New York holiday or a beloved tradition, you could also consider Lotte New York Palace for your accommodations. “From the moment you step into our grand courtyard adorned by our beautiful Christmas tree to the breathtaking views of St. Patrick’s Cathedral from your room, every detail evokes an elegant warmth that we hope our guests feel throughout their stay,” said Uwe Kunz, general manager at Lotte New York Palace. The hotel offers holiday decorated suites with a Christmas tree courtesy of Balsam Hill, a plate of holiday cookies and a Palace ornament keepsake through Jan. 5 (lottenypalace.com). A recent search showed the package started at $2,295 per night.

At The Ritz-Carlton, the Home for the Holiday package is more intimate and includes an in-room decorated Christmas tree with a complimentary FAO Schwarz ornament to take
home for your own tree, and festive games and treats to enjoy with your loved ones. The package is valid for
a stay through Christmas Day (ritzcarlton.com, call 212-308-9100 for pricing).

Cost

Expect this unique experience to set you back at least $2,000 (nobody said 5 stars was cheap!).

Perks/Unique amenities

When staying at any of these five-star hotels, you might find a high-end spa, same-day laundry and dry cleaning services, luxurious bathroom amenities, a fully-stocked mini fridge and 24-hour room service. For those staying in suites, butler service is available upon request.

1992 vs. 2025

Kevin's hotel suite stay, room service, donation to Duncan's Toy Chest and ice cream sundae, estimated to have cost $2,109 in 1992, the year the film was released, would cost a whopping 303.6% more today, according to a recent study. His $1,100 estimated stay and $967.40 room service bill would cost $6,244 and $2,233.89 respectively in 2025, according to the Australian insurance platform iSelect, which reviewed historic records and modern menu pricing. Those who chose to recreate his trip to the Big Apple can do it somewhat more cost effectively (and avoid using their father's stolen credit card.)
