A Brookville student is making a mark everywhere from the classroom to the sports car racetrack.
Charlotte Canavor, a senior at Long Island Lutheran Middle & High School, has a weighted GPA of 101.9 and earned her class’ Academic Achievement Award for the highest academic average as a sophomore and junior. She is also on her school’s Star Honor Roll for averaging above 90 percent in all classes.
But Canavor also has turned heads outside of school — twice taking second in the women’s division of the Sports Car Club of America Solo series at Nassau Coliseum. There, she was the youngest participant in 2014 and 2015 and achieved the second-fastest time trial in a 1995 Mazda MX-5 Miata she built with her father.
She also has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and teaches the sport to children during summer and school breaks at Martial Arts America in Hicksville.
“It’s so much fun,” Canavor, 17, said of her martial arts work. “It’s been interesting to see the impact I’ve made on the kids.”
Canavor is in the young ensemble choir at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hicksville and has attended a Summer STEM Program at Cooper Union’s Albert Nerken School of Engineering in Manhattan.
She also is first cello in her school’s orchestra, captain of Science Olympiad and treasurer of the National Honor Society.
