Centenarian: Angela Valenza

Angela Valenza was born April 17, 1908, to Maria and Ignatius Bacchi, who immigrated to America from Sciacca, Sicily. Angela was raised in Little Italy, where her family ran a grocery store. She had six brothers and five sisters, all now deceased. She lived in Brooklyn, Queens and the Rockaways. She has 145 nieces and nephews. As a child, Angela loved to play hopscotch, and her favorite food was lasagna. Angela married Joseph Valenza at 36 and was married for 51 years. For 22 years Angela did clerical work for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. Angela came to Dominican Village in Amityville in 1997 where she enjoys greeting visitors. When asked what she attributes her longevity to she said "Attitude, gratitude and faith."
