Centenarian: Anne Yenick Karash
Anne Yenick Karash was born April 14, 1906, in Czechoslovakia. She came to America with her mother and three siblings. Her father and brother had immigrated earlier. Her father died in a coal mine days before they arrived at Ellis Island in 1908. In her 20s, Anne and her sister, Marianne, moved to Brooklyn. Anne wed Bill Griffin, now deceased, had a son, Bill, and lived in Hicksville. She worked as a beautician and for the Nassau Department of Corrections. In 1963 Anne and her son moved to Las Vegas. After her son died in 2000, she returned to live in Riverhead. Anne celebrated at Hilaire Rehab & Nursing in Huntington Village, where she has lived since 2009, and with family at Legal Sea Foods.
