Bertha (Bertie) Solomon was born July 12, 1911, in Brooklyn. After graduating from high school she worked as a bookkeeper. Bertie married Herman Solomon, moved to Forest Hills and had two daughters. After retiring, the couple spent winters in Palm Springs, Calif., and enjoyed traveling to England, Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, Yugoslavia and Israel. They have four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Bertie enjoys meeting new people, attending lectures, playing word games and "Jeopardy." She attributes her longevity to a healthy diet. She and her husband live at Atria Great Neck, where she celebrated her birthday with family, residents and staff.
